We had a lot to celebrate in the last week. Drew finished this last semester, and finished his paper on Tuesday. I also had a dermatology appt. and I am finally finished with my last month on acne treatment! I still have 3-4 months of recovery which much of the redness will go away, but all the same I don't have to go through the intensive monthly visits, blood work, and prescriptions. It wouldn't have been that bad if not for my doctor's office and pharmacy messing up my prescription every single month thus resulting a week of pure stress. I am pretty stoked that this semester is over and I know Drew is too. We went out to Bangkok Cuisine for dinner for good measure. It was delicious and I can't get over their spring rolls. Yum! I wish I could replicate the recipe.

We hope everyone is having a fantastic Christmas season. Every year just seems to go by quicker and quicker. We are staying in Nevada this year due to work, but we're excited to see Drew's siblings and their new spouses as well as Drew's aunt and cousin that will also be coming to Gardnerville for Christmas Day!

Thanksgiving Tree Cutting

Like last year on Thanksgiving we went up to the mountains to cut down a Christmas tree. This is definitely a Christmas tradition I want continue with my own children. I look forward to it all year and it is the funnest part of Thanksgiving for me. This year we cut down two trees. One larger tree for Julie and Bob and one tree for Drew and I. We are getting our own tree since we will most likely be spending most of our holiday season at home. Since Drew works at Cabela's and I have to work as well we are a little tethered to home right now. Sigh. How nice it was when we would get 2 weeks off for Christmas with no work and no school! Double sigh. Dinner was amazing as usual and on Saturday instead of hitting all of the black friday sales we went to the thrift store and dollar store and got some great stuff!! It's funny how many people were at the thrift store, I guess everyone is cutting back this year. I got a lot of our Christmas decorations there so I don't have to go out and buy any. Grandma got a tree stand that was brand new for $2.50 and I got 5 brand new bestseller books for .50 cents. It was such a great trip. Better than the Catholic yard sale even. Bottom line: better books and actually things I needed/wanted not just stuff for cheap. And BYU won so it's been a great week!

Halloween

I know it's late for these posts, but Halloween feels like it was just yesterday. We went down to Gardnerville. It was so fun! I love going down there. I like it because growing up I've never enjoyed Halloween, but in Gardnerville Halloween is fun and I always look forward to it. We carved pumpkins and watched Halloween movies and handed out candy to trick-or-treaters. In the past it simply has come down to the fact that I hate scary things and Halloween just gives me the chills. But I am truly having a change of heart ever since I married Drew. Drew's favorite holiday is Halloween (next to Christmas) and I'm usually mystified. How is Halloween a favorite holiday?

HOnestly, July 4th has to be on the top of my list, and Christmas, of course. But I guess it all comes down to fond memories. I can't remember a single bad Fourth of July I've had in my life and that's why I love it so much. Perhaps that it how Drew feels about Halloween. In Loveland 4th of July is an all day celebration in the park and fireworks on the lake, but there don't even have fireworks in Reno.:( Provo was a lot of fun around Fourth of July too! Drew and I first held hands at the Thanksgiving Point fireworks, and I loved watching the Stadium of Fire fireworks from the MTC field. Always a good memory. We usually went to Monticello around Fourth of July or around the 24th of July. And what about Fourth of July parades! They are the best. Yeah... Fourth of July that's got to be my favorite holiday by far.

Anyways.... back to the subject. I am liking Halloween significantly more each year that Drew and I are together. He seems to bring out all the good in the holiday and we spent another year down in Gardnerville celebrating by carving pumpkins. Here are some of our pics!

Venice & Ossoppo

I am just now getting our pictures from Venice and Ossoppo. I have been so delinquent lately and a little lazy so I just put up a few of my favorites. We were able to go to Venice for a day trip (and a half counting the day we got in) and stayed with my sister for about 3-4 days. While we were in Venice one cool experience we had was being able to go Stake Conference in Venice. We used headphones for translation and it was interesting, but we were able to go to Ossoppo (an old fortress). It was so beautiful!

Drew's take on Italy

This is just a short note to add some of my thoughts on Italy, in addition to what Christina has written.

#1. Italian gelato, even the "fake tourist" stuff is amazing. American ice cream just doesn't cut it.

#2. American pizza is 10 times better than Italian pizza. I suppose this means Nic's Boston-Italian pizza is more Boston than Italy. That's a good thing.

#3. Il Colosseo is too impressive to explain in writing, with pictures, or even in video. It's one of those things that you have to experience for yourself. Actually stepping on the 2000 year old structure is awe-inspiring.

#4. The smoking in Europe is nauseating.

#5. Coke tastes better in the States. AND, it's much cheaper. $5 for a 20 oz is rediculous.

#6. We could not have gone without so much help from so many people. Thanks to all who helped and contributed to our trip in so many different ways.

ps #7. Jet lag is real, and its horrible!!!! Take my advice, if you ever travel a moderate distance, get sleeping pills and USE them!

See Italia Post

I finally put together some of my favorite pictures from Italy. I thought that the easiest way to share our pictures would be to upload them into Picasa instead of posting each one. I have made a separate post "Italia" for you to view them. The first is a movie of the collective pictures and the other is just access to go through the pictures at will. This is the first time I've used Picasa (so far I really like it) so please let me know if there are any problems. Unfortunately, I forgot to add the pictures from our other memory card encompassing most of our pictures of Venice and Osoppo so I'll add those later!

A little about our trip:
Flew into Venice and took a bus ride with my sister Vanessa to meet up with Erika & Layne. Meeting in San Marco's square we shared a Gondola ride:) Returned on the train to Sacile, then drove to my sister's villa. From this point on we were terribly jet lagged.

Day 2: E&L left to go to Florence/Siena. V took us to Slovenia to see some magnificent caves and a castle built into a cave. We also watched a car derby that was going on when we arrived! It was so fun to watch.Slovenia definitely has some of the most beautiful landscapes we saw on our trip.

Day3: We jumped in a van with an LDS family V is friends with to get a free ride to Pisa. Europeans are such crazy drivers! Spent the day in Pisa then caught the train to Florence. Arrived in Florence at our wonderful 4 start hotel (buffet breakfast!), walked around the Duomo and wandered around.

Day 4: Went shopping in the little markets in Florence and Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, walked around botanical gardens and San Lorenzos. First Gelato of many!! :)

Day 5: Took slow train to Rome, about 4hrs :( Met up with E&L, Spanish Steps, Piazza de Popolo

Day 6: Vatican City, Pantheon, Night walk including Piazza de Navona and Trevi Fountain
Found the most amazing gelato getting lost north of Campo di Fiori and The Pantheon!

Day 7: Colosseo, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum. This was the best thing we did in Rome.
It was so amazing be inside the Colosseum, but my favorite part was seeing the Roman Forum and being able to walk around the rubble of ancient Rome. Nationale Museum and dinner outside the Pantheon.

Day 8: Went with E&L to Villa Borghese while Drew slept in :) Took fast train back to Venice, then to Sacile (prob 6hours total?) Back in Ranzano/Aviano

Day 9: Took E&L to the airport. Spent the day in Venice with V. Shopped at the little vendors, "blank" bridge (can't remember the name now, V?) Visited San Marco's square (again), Went inside Basilica di San Marco. Experienced the most amazing Italian hot chocolate (which is thick like pudding! How I miss it!) V&D took us out to Gelindo dei Magredi for dinner. The most amazing dinner experience ever! We each got two courses and I was so stuffed! The restaurant is on a farm and most items are homemade/fresh. The homemade applejuice was amazing!

Day 10: Went to the air base to watch I. and E's soccer games. We stayed there for most of the days watching several soccer games. It was so nice to relax outside. Went to the commissary then to pizzaria for dinner and the best gelato we had the whole trip near Ranzano.

Day 11: Stake Conference Italian Style (had to wear the little headsets with interpreters... who weren't very good) :( I listened a few talkers that I did like though.Conference was in Venice in the convention room of a hotel. Visited and walked about Osoppo! Osoppo is a historical fortress that was also used during WWII. It was set on a hill with the most spectacular views! I learned from Wikipedia that La Fortezza o Rocca di Osoppo, now an historical attraction played a large role in the defense of Venice against the Austrians in the late 1850s during the time of the Italian Risorgomento, the struggle for the unification and independence of Italy. Interesting. One of my other favorite things. I am so glad we got to go!

Day12: Travel & Home

Thanks V&D, and E&L! And to everyone! It was amazing!

All in all, Italy was such an amazing place to see. The experience is almost indescribable because it really it is just an experience to be had. Some of my favorite things: Dinner is relaxed, slow, and to be enjoyed for hours upon hours. No one rushes, dinner is expected to be drawn out usually with wine or coffee. Drew and I had some of the best/romantic times just talking for hours at a little dinner table off a hidden cobblestone path. It's almost disgusting to come home and restaurants only care about turning tables here. Ugh!

Everyone walks everywhere and there are tons of little shops and markets to see. (Drew and I both lost weight being as busy as we were seeing everything. We skipped meals some days just trying to fit everything in and doing all that walking!)

The gelato and hot chocolate was amazing. I miss it already :( The architecture is awe inspiring. I can't believe what the Romans were able to accomplish! The roaring nightlife/social life. Decreased consumerism.

I hope you all can go there sometime. I'm sure we will never be able to go back, but I would go to Greece, Spain, and Egypt as well if I get the chance.

We are now back in the U.S of A! We had a blast, but very happy to be back in our own bed and home of course.

Oh, Italy

Well, it's been official for a couple of weeks... WE'RE GOING TO ITALY! In exactly two weeks that is. The last three weeks have been the most hectic weeks of the whole year and I've been frantically trying to prepare for our short-notice trip. Technically we've been trying to plan this trip for over a year, but there really isn't a convenient time to travel when you work full time, attend graduate school full time, or are poor college students (kinda like having kids eh?) and I'm sure timing will only get worse. Finally we just had to lay all our excuses aside and grasp this opportunity of a lifetime! We are so excited to go see my sister Vanessa, Dan, and their family in Aviano. We'll also be seeing my sister Erika and her husband Layne while they are visiting.

Lately, I've been hashing out all the logistics and it's been wearing me out, but it will be worth it. Truly though, you may be wondering, how in the world we are funding this trip? Good query! We have been scouring our apartment for things to sell and it will help us tremendously for some spending money while we're there. Who knew there was all this money lying around our apartment? While this has been a blessing we have truly have been blessed with our work and school situations to be able to go on this awesome trip and to have such amazing employers! I could never have been able to go if it weren't for Dr. Aland and his wife Lisa! Thank yoU!

We also plan to rent a Moped in Florence to tour the little countryside. I am really looking forward to that! Funny how earlier this year I read The Monster of Florence. It totally freaked me out concerning Florence. Now all I think of when I hear of Florence is this serial killer.

Does anyone have any good advice for things "must see" in Italy while we are there?We'll be there for about 12 days. I know time will just fly by!

Another reason why I've been so busy lately is because my uncle Dan, his two boys plus friend stayed with us last weekend while they were here for the Reno Air Races. I've never been, but I guess it was cool enough to come down from Boise. We don't have much space in our little apartment, but the four of them did marvelously on the floor. I hope it wasn't too bad! :)

I've also started a cycling class that runs on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Drew gets to be in a lot of softball leagues, and church football, and church basketball so I joined this class as my own little outlet. It's been a lot of fun and my butt has only now just started to forgive me over the three hours of torture each week.

And then, on the 18th of September I finally submitted my application to UNR's Dietetic Internship. I am so nervous, but I am so glad I got it done! It was so much work putting together my application packet, bleh, I really hope I get it so I never have to do it again. But I am sure I will not get in since the odds are so low... they only accept like two to three students in Reno, two or three go to Vegas. I feel so accomplished all of a sudden. Like my degree really may not be such a waste and at least I am trying! Even if I don't get accepted it feels good to be pursuing a career again. I've truly missed having a goal in sight :)! Needless to say, life has been so busy!

Vikingsholm

For my birthday Drew and I went to Vikingsholm located in Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe with Julie and Bob. We had a wonderful time. I was so amazed at the lavish mansion built there (1929, Lora Knight) and the beautiful water so rightly named Emerald Bay. You can read about Vikingsholm here. I took a few pictures of our tour of the castle, but only of the outside. It was such a wonderful place to visit. We also hiked to Eagle Falls nearby and though the water was low it was beautiful. Lots of little furry creatures attended our adventure as well. After Vikingsholm we went to Chevy's in South Lake Tahoe and after the short hike out in the sun and of hours touring the vicinity we were all starving and parched. I've never had such an amazing birthday lunch for free! It was a very memorable and thoroughly breathtaking day! We spent the rest of the weekend in Gardnerville being spoiled with brownies, fudge, ice cream, coconut shrimp, and roast!

Eagle Falls

Neglect

I have been extremely neglectful to my blog and to you, but I am making this attempt to make an update on all that's happened since I last blogged.

Two weeks ago Drew and I both took time off to go down to Gardnerville. Allison and John were also down there. On Friday we went to the Catholic Rummage Sale. It was fantastic as usual and everyone came away with great finds. My favorite finds were my stoneware bowl, a necklace, and we bought at least 4 new board games for $5. Everything is ridiculously cheap. We had handfuls of stuff and only paid $18 total. It was wonderfully fun. After the sale Allison, John, Julie, and I went to Grover's Hot Springs. Drew and his dad went to Hot August Nights. I wanted to do both, but I'm glad I went to the springs so I wouldn't have to drive back up to Reno. On Saturday the work began getting ready for the open house, but it was a lot of fun. The best part was, of course, this random guy who streaked through the open house in the backyard wearing nothing but a black mask and a man-thong. It was so crazy-weird, but freaking hilarious. Such a random act.

One week ago Drew and I signed our new lease so we will be here at least one more year. It is good because we were able to get an incentive to stay, we love our ward, we enjoy the pool, and we didn't want to move all of our stuff again.

I also found a amazing girl in my co-workers ward who does hair and is absolutely fantastic, gifted, and very reasonable. She did my hair last Monday and I love it. I asked for the same thing I did last time really. Highlights with a golden blond color as well. It looks very natural and she did it quickly too. I am SO happy to have someone I trust to do my hair!

On Thursday I found out that my time was approved to go to Italy in October... but the Aland's are also taking off the first week in November. That would be a lot of time off. We may be moving our trip to Italy back a bit since so much is happening. My best friend from high school, Sarah, is getting married in November so I am taking off time for that too. I am super ecstatic for her wedding not only to see her get married and find happiness, but also because I will be doing her flowers for the wedding. It is my secret desire to start my own flower business doing weddings. I would love, love, love that. So this is my chance to make a splash! I can't wait! She has also asked me to be a part of the wedding party. I am SO excited for the whole event I cannot even describe. She is getting married in the Rexburg temple so Drew and I are probably going to swing by Jackson Hole and Yellowstone since we are going in that direction. We'll see what we have time for.

Friday, we had a huge Activity Days swimming party and it was a lot of fun, but relieving to finally have over. I simply love the fact that all of the girls get along so well and are such good friends. Which is sometimes hard with 16 girls all in one group.

Drew has been so amazing and romantic lately. This week he brought me flowers from Costco. It was probably because I was a little mad at him, but I just melt when he does that. I love flowers! Also this Saturday he told me he had a surprise. When I woke up he instructed me to get dressed, get ready, and brush my teeth. He surprised me by taking me out to my favorite breakfast place, Peg's Glorified Ham & Eggs. After that we went to Cabela's real quick for their 4 hour sale and got some flashlights. He then drove me to Carson City. I was so mystified the whole time where he could be taking me. Usually it's impossible for him to keep a secret, but he was so sneaky. He told me about this surprise earlier in the week so the excitement was able to build, that was good on his part. He ended up taking me to the new Nevada State Museum. I say new because they just re-constructed a new annex to the old mint building and I've been interested in going there for a long time, every time we drive down to Gardnerville we pass it. It was so fun, and so romantic of Drew to plan for me. I love surprises! And there's nothing like quality time (which is probably my love language next to physical touch, Drew's love language is words of affirmation.)

Reno Aces

This Monday, Drew and I went to the Reno Aces game with his parents. First we went out to dinner and tried a new restaurant called Buenos Grill. I got a Baja burrito and I thought it was really good! However, it wasn't a hit with everyone so it might not be a place we will recommend to the rest of the fam. Then we went to the game vs. the Colorado Springs Skysox. It was a lot of fun even though the Aces played an awful game! As entertainment they had the San Diego Chicken there and it was hilarious! We are really glad we were able to go with Julie & Bob. We will probably chose different seats next time, a little higher up but we are really enjoying having a local team and plan to go to more games! It's an awesome summer outing, so relaxing! On another note, Drew's summer softball league started and they had an amazing game last Wednesday. (Drew has now played on a softball team every season since they have "freeze" ball here and has become a really good outlet for him.) I was the only fan who showed up to their last game, but it was well worth it! Drew hit an in fence home-run and scored the game winning run. Although he took quite a dive sliding into home! Ouch! I love watching the games and I've become know as Drew's "good luck" charm lately. Drew has been telling me that he always plays better when I'm watching, but it seems that all his teammates have now noticed the difference when I'm there. I don't know what it is, maybe Drew just is more aware of someone watching his every move, or he's just showin' off! He's a really good player and I'm really proud of him. I'm looking forward to the rest of the games! :)

Our Third Anniversary!!

July 1st was officially our third anniversary. We set out to make it memorable and fun-packed. I especially made sure we had plenty to do that day, but Drew had his contributions as well. We both have Wednesdays off of work and our anniversary landed on a Wednesday so we had the whole day to play.

We started the day with hiking near Mt. Rose which was beautiful and fun. It really made me miss hiking 14ners in Colorado. The hike was nearly as long as we thought, but it was still exhausting since the end was steep and then we ran down. It made me miss Colorado even more thinking of all the amazing trail runs there are. (On a side note, the last time we were in Colorado was for Joseph's wedding in 2007. We have made it our goal to get out there soon to see my family...only problem is that my family is so spread out :( I guess that's why we are constantly with Drew's family- much easier to see the whole family.) The trail we went on was called Dry Pond which connects a loop of trails Whites Creek Trail and Jones. There was a meadow at the top and yes, even a dried up looking pond.

After the hike we cleaned up in time to make it to our appointment for a pair of massages. I had coupons for two free 1 hour massages. All was well... I had never had a massage so I thought how wonderful! I found the hardest part was to let myself relax with this stranger. Both Drew and I emerged feeling a bit like limp noodles (at least my legs were)... anyhow I will get back to this later.

We went straight to Costco to buy our wonderful memory foam contoured pillows for each other since our old ones are nearly as thin as pancakes and we've been having troubles sleeping. I'm happy to report that this is one of the best pillows I've ever had and I love sleeping on it.

After Costco we went home again, grabbed a slight snack. Although not originally planned Drew wanted to go watch the new transformers movie so we went to that. By this time I had developed a pounding headache and the last thing that I wanted to do was be hammered by a loud theater and harsh light, but we went nonetheless.

Now that we were starving we went and tried out BJ's restaurant! It was amazing! And the atmosphere was great too. I was so hungry I felt faint and could have eaten anything. I ordered the balsamic chicken and Drew ordered a pizza. The pizza I'll have to admit was better (that's what they are known for!) I highly recommend it. Anyways... by the end of our meal I was feeling really sick. I went to the bathroom and started dry heaving... it was awful. I felt sick all over, I had a headache and felt nausous, hence the dry heaving. I collected myself in time to go to our table and promptly that we needed to leave NOW! He refused to leave if I felt like throwing up. I insisted that I was fine to make it home and I would not throw up in the car. Satisfied, Drew took me home and tucked me into bed around 9:30pm or so. He was really sweet and understanding, but I felt bad that I was so sick feeling and had to ditch him for the rest of the night. I know, such a romantic ending, huh?

Apparently when you get a massage you're supposed to go home, take it easy, and drink plenty of water. I think hiking did me in. Moral of the story is: Less IS More. It was still a very memorable anniversary, just went a little differently than I had planned in my mind.

A walk down memory lane! I was going through all of my old e-mails and I found these e-mails between Drew and I that were so cute. I loved dating Drew and being engaged.It was fun remembering how we couldn't wait to see each other after school and work. When he would come to the library to surprise me at work. How we spent all of our summer nights talking on his porch. I had almost forgot how fun that was. Drew is so sweet and while he might not seem like the romantic type, he really deserves more credit than I give him. Just the other day he turned to me and said, "Let's get a blanket and go watch the sunset somewhere." I was like, "Really?" so he grabbed some fudge from Cabela's and a blanket and we drove off. Drew is an excellent husband and I love to be around him. He makes my heart happy! :)

Our First Piano!!

Lately I've been searching Craigslist a lot. I search for just about anything mostly apartments for rent, books, a road bike, and on occasion I look for musical instruments. So the other day I found a Suzuki Electric Piano listed for $250. I called the guy selling it and Drew and I jumped in the car and drove out to Verdi to look at it. It's was in pristine condition, weighted keys, pedals and beautiful dark wood. After some effort of trying to see if it would fit in our trailblazer we loaded it up and bought it on the spot. It was a steal in my eyes and we just couldn't pass up this great deal! My original plan was to save up for an electric piano from Costco, but this turned out to be much cheaper. Not that we have the money lying around, but we just couldn't pass it up. Drew has gaming systems and guns so he thought I should have my own toy. Honestly though his Wii was just as expensive as my piano and I'll get way more use out of it. The nice thing about an electric piano is that it doesn't need to be tuned after moving and significantly easier to move as well. The downside is that we live on the 3rd floor so getting it up here was awful. Drew asked his home teaching partner come help so we made it, but Drew refuses to move into another apartment after this because he doesn't want to move all the things we've brought up here. I'm very excited for our new piano and I think about going home everyday just to play it. Craigslist is amazing.

Allison's Wedding!

Drew and I just got back from Utah again. This time for Allison and John's Wedding! It was a lot of great fun. The wedding was absolutely perfect and so fun to be at. Allison was so beautiful and it was a very emotionally charged day! Drew got a little teary more than once and the sealing was especially amazing. I am very biased to our sealer, but Allison's sealer was very insightful. We stayed with Julie's cousin Diana and her husband Lee who live in Elk Ridge and that was equally fun and amazing. They have a very beautiful home with a view of the whole valley. Thursday we spent traveling, then on Friday we went to the Provo Temple for Allison's endowment session and afterward a picnic with Johns family. While we were having fun at Kiwanis Park I ran into my cousin Stephanie Campbell. It was great to catch up with her. What are the odds? Allison was married in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and I was really excited to go through it again because I was able to go to the Open House with my mom in 1996. It did rain a lot on Saturday, but the rain let up right as Allison & John were taking their individual pictures. and also let up as they were leaving the luncheon. Memorial Day Geocaching

We went home a day early from our Utah vacation to spend Memorial Day in Gardnerville. That day we went geocaching and had an a BBQ lunch. It was a really beautiful day and it was nice just to take a vacation from our vacation and just relax. Gardnerville is our home away from home and we are so happy and grateful to live so close to family!

On a side note our cats did very well alone... quite a kitty litter mess when we came home. Jinxy was especially affectionate when we came home! Cute kitty missed us.
