Every Day of the Week

Sunday- Drew and I spoke in church last Sunday. Mine was on 3 Ne 18:15 and Drew's was on Helaman 14:17. I got really nervous and ended up talking way too fast and Drew was left with a bunch of time to fill up. It ended up being OK though.

Monday- Randomly, someone from the ward called me and asked me if I was still looking for a job. This someone turned out to be Lisa Aland who I had heard was in need of a front office receptionist for their Family Dentistry practice (her husband Troy is a dentist). Weeks ago when I asked her about a job she said that their receptionist at the moment was pregnant and they would probably need someone in the Spring. I thought it was a lost cause because I needed a job now. Then, when Lisa called me she said that their receptionist just decided to quit and wanted me to bring in my resume if I was interested. Random... I assured her I was interested and thanked her for keeping me in mind for the position.

Tuesday- I turned in my resume at the Aland's Family Dentistry practice and ended up talking to Dr. Aland for a bit (kinda like a mini-interview, but nothing formal). He told me that his wife knew I had majored in Dietetics and was really interested in me for that reason because they would like to incorporate some nutrition presentations/consultations into their practice. Obviously the most important nutrition concerns to a dentist would be soda and sticky foods, etc.. Dr. Aland asked me to come in on Wednesday for a work interview at 1pm.

Wednesday- Drew has class at 1pm so I dropped him off early and started driving to my interview. I remember being really worried about being there on time to make a good impression and prepping myself for the interview. I was sitting at the stoplight at the corner of Plumb Ln. and Harvard Way just two blocks from Dr. Aland's office and Bam! Some lady rear ends me. She didn't seem to be concerned, but we exchanged information and I said good riddance to being early or on-time for that matter for my interview! At the office they were very understanding. Jillian then began to teach me the basics of the office and answer my questions. I didn't know what to expect from a work interview, but I guess it was a test of my personality to see if I would blend well with the office and if I could learn fast. Jillian liked me right away and recommended that they hire me!

Thursday- In the morning Lisa Aland invited me to her house and we talked about the work interview and some logistics. Lisa manages her husbands Dentistry business so they are a team when it comes to the office. She offered me the front office position starting out at $14/hr. The rest of the discussion was basically talking about how they would like to incorporate my knowledge in nutrition into their practice after I have mastered the front office operations. This would basically consist of nutrition consultations after cleanings or even making separate appointments to see me. I'm not sure how this is going to pan out since I'm not a Registered Dietitian yet, but I am very excited that they were so interested in that aspect of me and that I will still be able to utilize my degree! She asked me start the next day (Friday) and that their receptionist was going to quit on Tuesday. I was so shocked! She told me she thought it was an answer to prayer that I had talked to her just weeks ago about a job and then their receptionist wanted to quit. I was like, you're telling me! The situation turned out to be an answer to both our prayers. We also talked to the insurance agent from All State and took our car to the shop to get fixed. The bumper was dented and also our hatch. The estimate was about $2,200. I'm glad we don't have to pay for it! Since it was my last free day we went hiking along the Truckee River. It was very pretty.

Friday- I started my first day of work. Nothing is too complicated and Jillian allowed me to be very hands-on. I answered the phone a bit even scheduled appointments already and did some insurance checks. The hardest part of this job will be learning about insurance and doing insurance verifications and claims. I'm really unsure about that portion, but everything else I am grasping well. Jillian told me that when she started she trained with the receptionist for two and half weeks! And I'm thinking ... I get today (friday) and Monday and Tuesday to soak up all I can. I don't care though cause I learn by doing! I'm so happy to have a full time job now! I also get benefits with 100% dental of course. Drew gets 80%. Neither Drew or I have seen a dentist since we were married so that is good. Drew and his dad went to the gun show Cabela's was putting on which Drew said the selection wasn't great, but I think they still had fun.

Saturday- We celebrated Drew's birthday because his birthday landed on Sunday this year. I wanted to do a lot of things, but it also happened to be Super Saturday so I only had the afternoon to plan. I got up and went to Super Saturday at 8am and was home by 12pm. I did the Trick or Treat blocks, the Ho Ho Ho blocks, and a Family plaque! I am so proud of my projects because they turned out so well!

The rest of the day I had planned out for Drew's birthday was a surprise for Drew because I didn't let him know a thing! We went up to Lake Tahoe to Bijou Park and played Frisbee golf. They have 27 holes so it's large, but it was also very crowded so we just did 18 holes and left. We got Drew a sweater for his birthday then went to dinner at The Naked Fish and had some sushi. It was good, but the service was below par. Still, not comparable to Happy Sumo. After dinner we wandered around until we found a chocolate shop and bought some caramel fudge. Yum! We drove home after that and Drew actually just dropped me off cause he needed to check if there was this one gun still available at Cabela's. This gave me time to set up for the rest of the surprises I had prepared. I surprised him when he got home with pumpkin cream pie, sparkling cider, and a card I had written for him with a list of things I loved about him. We wrapped up the day by watching a movie. It was a perfect day! I couldn't have planned it better myself! Drew was very happy, but I mean what can I say? I love celebrations and they mean a lot to me so I like to do everything I can to make it fun and amazing!

Sunday- Today is Drew's 26th birthday! Also, weigh in day! At the beginning of October Drew and I decided to try to lose some weight. We both decided to lose 4 lbs. If we succeeded we had planned rewards. For Drew, a VIP treatment at SportsClips and for me, a new pair of jeans. Drew started at 176 lbs. and I started at 118 lbs. Today we weighed the results. Drew weighed in at 172 lbs reaching his goal! And I weighed in at 115 lbs. so I came close, but didn't make it! I'm not concerned though... I didn't really have much weight to lose in the first place. Drew is definitely looking forward to his VIP treatment! Today, we are just enjoying the day and relaxing. Nothing big today besides church and of course... more pumpkin pie!

In G-ville once again

I have finally discovered Chevy's... delicious. First, Drew insisted that we stop by to buy some of their salsa. After we completely consumed all of it we decided to go there on our date night awhile ago. Today, Drew's dad took us there again after we went to the new Scheel's superstore in Sparks. Thanks Bob for the wonderful day! The best part of my meal today was the Mango Lemonade with a lime wedge. It was to die for! I highly recommend it!

Drew had two midterms this week which went very well. He reported that both tests were easy (it seems that UNR graduate school is loads easier than BYU undergrad). I am thankful for a school that prepares it's students well and though it was hard, I wouldn't have it any other way. Yesterday, after Drew finished his test his professor let everyone out early.

We decided to go down to Gardnerville to visit Drew's aunt Connie, cousin Luke and his family who were visiting and spend the night at his parents house. We all met up for dinner at the Casino Fandango which is his grandparents favorite place to eat. Luke and his wife, Lisa have four children. Three boys and one girl, Ethan, Dallin, McKay, and Abby. Drew and I agree that they are the most well-behaved, smart, and inqusitive children we have ever met! They are darn cute too. It was so funny because after the kids were done eating they started to roam around the table and McKay comes up behind Drew and says, "Andwew, Andwew...." while tapping him on the shoulder with a straw. Drew turns to him and says " What?" then McKay starts stroking Drew's goatee with the end of his straw and says, "I'm going to shave your beard!" It was so darn cute! It made me laugh so hard. The boys all loved to talk to Drew and hang off his arms. Drew thinks they are deifinitely a motivator to have kids. You know how sometimes you spend time with someone else's kids and you can't stop thinking about how much you don't ever want to have kids? Luke and Lisa have done and great job by setting an example or at least setting up an example for others to actually have kids. Thanks :)

Gardnerville was wonderful and we were even able to watch the BYU football game at a friends house down the street with a home theatre system. It was so nice, but the game was absolutely painful to watch! TCU won 32-7! It seemed like everything was going wrong for BYU and everything was connecting for TCU!

I Heart Your Blog

Thanks Lynette for loving my blog! I really love yours too and I would seriously nominate yours if you hadn't already tagged me!

The rules: 1. The winners put the sticky sticker of uber stickiness up on their blog to say "Look at me! Look at me! I'm COOL... or at least someone else thinks so!"2. Then they get to link back to me. 3. Then they get to nominate a few of their own winners! Spread the love! 4. Then leave a little note on the chosen blogs so they aren't left in the dark.

Well, there IS a few blogs that I couldn't live, or be motivated to keep on blogging, without.

1. Je t'aime, Allison: I love reading your blog... and you're probably the only one who blogs on a consistent basis so it keeps me occupied, plus I love all the quotes of the day. I found that people who constantly find the little funny things in life are happier in general and really living. It really made me pay attention to all the random funny conversations I have sometimes and that helps me love life more. I read your blog and realize how much more you understand than I did at that age. You're my favorite sister-in-law ;). You're awesome!

2. Foxy Family, Savannah: How could I not love your blog! I am so glad that we can keep in touch through blogs because I miss you so much. I feel like you are someone I can truly relate to and I always am wondering what you're up to and what you're doing.

3. Miss Popular, Alycia: You're the sweetest, nicest person I've ever met and I'm glad we married roommates. Your blog serves a dual purpose really because Drew and I can keep touch with you and Gabe and Drew likes that! You're deep and I love reading what you have to say.

4. The Hatcher 5: I love to hear about life in Italy and we really wish we could come visit. Well, I naturally love hearing about my family, but it would be more helpful if they blogged more. I love our Family blog and Erika's too, it's just easier to nominate just one.

5. Joe and Alene, Alene: I love reading your opinions and about life in Korea.

Conference Weekend

We had a great weekend! On Friday we went down to Gardnerville, went shooting, geocaching, and went out to dinner at a great Mexican place Drew's parents found. Saturday we were able to catch the Salmon Festival up at Lake Tahoe and watched all the salmon run/spawn. It was beautiful. There were thousands of Salmon! After Tahoe we went home... we had left out kitties at home because they hate the car and we wanted to see if they were OK. When we got home Jinxy was the only one to come meet us at the door, so Drew started calling Sake. We heard this really high pitched "mewing" but we it wasn't in the living room. Drew opens the closet door and out comes Sake. Oh my gosh! Did she really spend the whole day and night locked in the closet? We're not really sure what happened, but as we left for Gardnerville we remembered our camera so I ran upstairs and grabbed the camera (out of the closet) and then dashed back out the door. She could have run in without me know it! I know I opened it, but I don't remember closing it. Sometimes the cats like to get on either side of the door and play at each others paws under the door and there's a chance that Jinx closed the door on her. Oh, poor kitty. I'm sure glad we came back when we did. On Sunday we watched Conference and then went out and did some more geocaching. Here are some pictures of our adventures!

At the shooting range in Gardnervile

Three generations!

The Salmon Festival - here are a few salmon that are paired off and spawning. They turn bright red and are pretty spectacular. Too bad they all die after they spawn.

This is Sammy the Salmon for the Salmon Festival. They had food, fish painting, information, and special activities for kids. It was fun

Geocaching in Gardnerville

We found this geocache called "Between a Rock and a Hard Place"

This is a geocache that we snagged at an Indian burial ground. It was actually kinda creepy and some pets were buried there... it reminded me of Pet Cemetery.

This week we found this cool geocoin that looks exactly like an Ipod. I think it's one of the best geocoins we've found.

This is the view of Reno from the hill where we hiked up to find a cache

Sunday afternoon geocaching

We had a great time this weekend. A lot more fun than we've had in a long time. Thursday night we also had some couples from the ward over and it was hilarious playing Catch Phrase with them. We are happy here in Reno and it's nice to be so close to family.

A blog for Blogs sake.

I don't blog as often and Christina does, or as often as I should. I just don't feel like I have anything interesting to say. I could talk about sports which is what I would most like to discuss, but most people who read this blog could care less that the Penguins begin regular season play tomorrow, and they are playing in Finland and Sweden. After losing to Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals, a bunch of players left, which makes me sad. I wish Hossa would have stayed, but he left. For Detroit nonetheless. Traitor. And most people would probably care less if I talked about the Cougars' remarkable start to this years CFB season. They look to be the big BCS buster this year if things go well. But, knowing the Cougars and the dreaded history of BYU football, we will all watch in horror as they blow it bigtime, giving half their fans throughout the country a fatal heart attack. I'm currently working on my 3rd from watching their games. Most recently 3 weeks ago when they traveled to Washington and came out with a one point victory. NOTE!!!!!! Tune in to BYU TV which is available online at byutv.com or .net or whatever (google it) this Friday at 6MT to watch BYU take on Utah State. It will be an annhialation, and we can watch Max Hall pad his stats for 2 quarters, well on his way to a Heisman run.
No, people probably don't care to read what I write, but I write anyways just in case people care about the most important thing in life. Sports. For what would life be without sports? Not worth living, that's what.
