Yesterday was my birthday and it started out a little rough at first, but eventually turned into a perfect evening. Let me explain. It started as an ordinary day, I felt like getting out and doing something different so Drew and I took a walk down to a large park near our apartment. It was big and beautiful except I was a little troubled because a rather large suspicion was creeping into my mind that Drew didn't realize that it was my birthday. In fact, Drew hadn't said anything to me that morning or even the night before about my birthday or what he had planned. I kept thinking to myself how truly cruel it is that celebrations/holidays/birthdays mean a great deal more to me than to Drew. I like to make big deal about anything really. So I decided to help him on a bit instead of torment myself. We sat down in the shade and we started talking about regular things, then I decided to test him,
Me: "So.. what do you want to do today?"
Drew: " Well, I need to go to UNR and buy some of my books, the I though we could go to Best Buy to get a router, and get gas at Costco..."
Me: "Oh... well.... (long pause) did you have any other plans for today?"
Drew, nonchalantly: "No, not really, why? Did you have something in mind?"
Confirmed! I thought to myself. He really did forget my birthday was today! I think that was the breaking point right there. I put on my sunglasses to hide my eyes and stood up to gain my composure, but I couldn't help but start to cry. At first I thought he was trying to trick me into thinking that he had forgot my birthday, then surprise me or something.
" I thought that you might at least remember it was my birthday!" I blurted through my tears.
Anyways, I can't help but to laugh about it now. It turns out that he didn't forget my birthday and thought I was strictly talking about today vs. tonight. My tears dried up quickly when Drew hugged me and reassured me he had remembered my birthday and told me he was going to take me out to dinner that night. I told him I wanted Sushi for my birthday dinner. We went out to do our errands and we also went shopping for a present although we didn't get anything because I couldn't bring myself to spend anymore money than we have already spent on our new apartment.

We ended up going to Sushi Moto, a place we just googled since we're not familiar with the area yet. It turned out to be good, and well priced as well. Not too expensive. It's not as good as Happy Sumo, comparable to Yamoto though, it was good. We went home and had a really romantic night in and watched a movie. It was a perfect evening! Oh! And we bought a delicious chocolate cake from Costco for my birthday which we plan to eat for the next couple of days because it's so huge!
I can be a little emotional and irrational at times, but I'm usually always wrong about my initial presumptions. I had a great day. I did have to remind Drew that he should at least hug me and say happy birthday in the morning in the future to let me know he's remembered instead of letting me think the worst!! I think we both learned a little about each other.
